my controversial opinion about play
You can learn more about someone in ten minutes of play(the kind that doesn’t require you to take your clothes off) than in ten dinners.
They've rehearsed some of those stories so many times they come out polished and curated. they ultimately offer a partial insight into who they are and their inner world which can be somewhat biased.
I keep noticing this.
Conversation has many exits and limits. A lot of people know how to talk about themselves and present a certain version of themselves.
You can spend a whole evening with someone and only ever meet their press release.
But play doesn't give you time to curate.
Someone throws you something unexpected, and whatever comes out of you next is just... you.
Your actual humour.
The sound of your giggles.
What you do when you don't know what to do next.
I think that's why a lot of adults avoid play.
Not because it's childish.
Because it's revealing, it’s exposing.
Being met when revealing the unpolished, unedited, unscripted version of ourselves, is the most direct way to intimacy there is.
I’m running a retreat called wild play, a playground for adults where this raw, unscripted version of you is invited to explore.
Wild Play.
Four days. Torquay.
Come meet yourself and real people, not their press releases.
